Chris McNeil Obituary

Chris Elaine McNeil (née Showalter), 58, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on November 10, 2023. Born on October 25, 1965 in Washington, DC, Chris was the beloved daughter of Victoria and Lewis Anderson.

In her younger years, Chris worked in various jobs as a waitress, dental assistant, and hotel night auditor. However, in the 1990’s she decided to pursue her passion for cooking by completing Culinary Programs through the DC Central Kitchen, and in 2012 at Cafe Joshua of The Lord's Place in West Palm Beach, FL. Chris' culinary specialties were Soul Food and scrumptious deserts. She loved to cook and bake, and everyone loved her cooking. As a cook, Chris worked in various residential rehab facilities in Maryland and in South Florida. Working with local churches, Chris also generously volunteered her time and talents to feed the hungry in Maryland, Florida, and South Carolina.

Chris is survived by her son, James Lairy Hicks, and her adoring grandchildren, Anya and Aaliyah. She is also survived by her parents, Victoria and Lewis Anderson, as well as her brother, Dale Edward Showalter II and step- sister, Karen Anderson Woelfel.

Chris was preceded in death by her first son, Dennis DeSales Chase, Jr. "Little Den," who passed away on June 15, 1991, at the age of four.

A Scattering of Ashes Ceremony is being planned to take place in St. Mary's, Maryland in June of 2024, at the grave site of Chris' first son, Dennis Chase, Jr.

Chris had a big personality, and she made friends wherever she went. She had a lifelong struggle with addiction, and she tried rehab many times, but her poor health and other life struggles made it difficult for sobriety to take hold. Chris will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories of her delicious meals and her kind-hearted spirit.
