Josie Walker Obituary

Born Josie Bell Walker to the late Jasper & Pinkie Walker in Tuskegee, Alabama on October 15, 1929. Josie departed this earthly life on October 29, 2024.

Josie joined Liberty Hill A.M. E Zion Church at an early age and served faithfully until she graduated from Cotton Valley High School and moved to Kentucky for a brief stay. Josie then moved to Jamaica, New York in 1955 where she joined Bethany Baptist Church, in Jamaica NY. Josie worked as a Private Duty Nurse taking care of babies and the sick, she enjoyed taking care of people in need. Family meant everything to Josie. She would help anyone without asking.

She loved watching her soap operas, as well as evening programs, wheel of fortune, jeopardy, to name a few. She enjoyed baking cakes, playing solitaire, and doing word search puzzle books. After being in NY for fifty years, in 2011 she moved to Richmond, Virginia to be closer to her daughter Edith and joined 31st Street Baptist Church where she loved to fellowship. In 2018 she moved with her daughter Edith to South Carolina. Josie recently celebrated a milestone birthday turning 95 years old and will be missed for her witty sense of humor, kindness and love.

Josie leaves to cherish her memories with her two daughters, Delores Nicholson of Jamaica, NY and Edie Walker of Lake Wylie, SC; four grandchildren, Naimah Brown of Lake Wylie, SC, Veronica Joyner of Raleigh, NC, Shaheed Brown (Rose) of Lawrenceville, GA and Michael Puryear of Norfolk, VA; eight great-grandchildren; Felicia Uyadi of Raleigh, NC,Shanika Dixon (Xavier) of Raleigh, NC, Zani Brown of Dallas, Texas, Trevin Johnson of Lake Wylie, SC, Michael Puryear Jr., Candance Puryear, Christian Puryear and Kaleb Puryear all of Norfolk, VA; three great-great grandchildren, Xavier Dixon, Zoey Dixon and Tristan Dixon all of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, David Walker & Lucas Walker of Jamaica, NY; five sisters, Mary Smith of Chattahochee, FL, Evelyn Stovel of Jamaica, NY, Lula Cunningham of Lawrenceville, GA, Hattie Walker of Stone Mountain, GA and Rubenia White of Miami, FL. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she has reunited in eternity with her daughter, Shirley Walker; three brothers, Eugene Walker, Jimmy Walker, and Jessie Walker and two sisters, Ollie Wells and Willie Mae Walker.

Josie will be missed immensely by those who loved her and knew her.

Her celebration of life will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11am at Faith Funeral Services Chapel.
