Mr. Marion Lacey Stewart, Jr. of 3905 Hillcrest Road, York, South Carolina passed away in the early morning hours of June 27, 2024. Lacey, as he was known, was born April 9, 1943. He was a graduate of York High School Class of 1961 and a US Air Force veteran where he served as an airplane mechanic. Everyone that knew him, loved him and cherished him for his storytelling and local history lessons. Lacey was a devoted member of the Sharon United Methodist Church and the Sharon, South Carolina community. He was a founding member of the Broad River Basin Historical Society.
He is survived by his son Francis Marion Stewart and daughter-in-law Toryn Kimberley Stewart of Hendersonville, North Carolina. He is also survived by two sisters, Frances Brown and Mary Alice Cain, both of York, South Carolina; sisters-in-law Nell Bradley, Patricia Johnson, Janet Spencer, and Libby Merrill.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Andral Stewart, Joe Stewart, Marshall Stewart, and Richard Stewart; sisters Eunice Wallace, Connie Burton, and Lillian Cody.
Also preceding him in death was his wife Mary Frances Maloney Stewart, in September of 2000. Since the passing of Mary Frances he has lived a quiet life on the family farm just outside of Sharon.
Lacey also leaves behind over 30 nieces and nephews, some preceding him in death. Every one of them loved their Uncle Lacey.
Per his wishes there will be no visitation, memorial or funeral observed by the family.
